I'm reading a book called The Women's Room. It's a best seller from the 1970s. It's the story of a woman battling the assumptions of her generation regarding women. What's interesting is to read it 30 years after it was published. Many of the concerns so close to the main character, Mira, like the soft humming of a functional, happy domestic life, are far removed from my daily life.

Mason Jennings has a new CD out, and was interviewed on MPR's Word of Mouth yesterday.

Ralph Nader was here yesterday, but I missed it. Politics makes me sick.

My favorite CD at this moment is the Silver Jews, American Water. Here are some lyrical selections.

In 1984 I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
Slowly screwing my way across europe, they had to make a correction

I know that alot of what i have to say has been lifted off of mens room walls.

sometimes i feel like i'm watching the world
and the world isn't watching me back.
but when i see you, i know i'm in it too.

Send in the clouds, bring down the rain
shut all the blinds, turn out the lights:
I feel insane when you get in my bed.
